Black Dog's ProgressHere is the Black dog’s Progress found on Vimeo,  presented by the Animate Projects commission for Channel 4 in association with Arts Council England.   The way the animation builds up is very captivating.  If you would exchange the little animated boxes with thumbnail images or mini videos related to your project, you get a great attention grabber. But watch it first and then read on.  It is produced by Small time Inc. from London and the artists is Stephen Irwin.  Music by Sorenious Bonk.

Warning: If you have a sensitive nature, you might not want to watch this, it is kind of morbid.

I think the technical concept is clear.  You can translate the animation into images or mini videos to support your story or project and slowly fill the screen with thumbnails or mosaic.  However, watch it that while the animation is going, you do not narrate important information or your message might get lost. Create a moment of rest in the video to deliver your message.  You could do that by zooming into one of your images and then deliver your info. You can build in several moments of rest or leave it at one in the end.  Experiment with it until you feel it is right.

If you find this video inspiring and you think it is useful to you, please visit the channel of Small Time Inc. and leave a nice comment.  See it as your good deed for today to pay hommage to an artist who inpired you!

Thanks for featuring The Black Dog’s Progress, good to see an appreciation of Stephen’s technique.

We’ve uploaded an interview about the making of The Black Dog’s Progress here: http://www.animateprojects.org/films/by_date/films_2008/atv_s_irwin if you would like to hear more about it from the man himself.
