S3: Managing files and folders with CrossFTP for Mac

It is hard to find a good application to manage your files and folders on S3 Amazon for MacOSX users. CrossFTP Pro is luckily one of them and believe me, I tested quite a few, including Cyberduck, Transmit and others. Therefore, I think this is an excellent moment to create a video tutorial to demonstrate the power of this application, or “S3 Amazon client“, as the authors of CrossFTP Pro call it.
The staff of CrossFTP Pro was so good to provide me with a license to test their application without limitations and I have to say, I was happily surprised to finally find a Mac client that was up to the job. To put things in perspective: I’m spoiled with CloudBerry S3 Explorer on Windows, so my standards are high and the only one that comes near this perfection is CrossFTP Pro.
There is also a Windows version, but I wouldn’t trade my Cloudberry for the world (slight exaggeration
) and I will tell you why in another post where I compare the these two applications.
To start with, the interface of CrossFTP Pro is easy to understand, all the tools we need are easily accessible, often using the right hand click, just as in CloudBerry S3 Explorer.

CrossFTP is, like CloudBerry, an all-round solution, therefore you can also use it for regular FTP, to upload and download files on your domain(s) too. Here is a list of the most important features, and below that, you find a set op video tutorial chapters.
Most important Features:
- Amazon S3 Support – store files online, cost effectively
- CloudFront Distribution Support – distribute the content worldwide
- Metadata Modification – change the HTTP headers
- GZip Compression – compress the data to save on costs
- Previews with Zoom – smoothly zoom and preview
- Turbo Engine – multi-thread engine speeds up your work!
- Scheduling – schedule your transfer/sync tasks.
- Batch Transfer – automate Copy/Move files and folders in S3
- Search – find quickly the file you need in your bucket
- Synchronization – synchronize local and Amazon S3 data visually
- URL – create public URLs and expiring URLs to share the files
S3 Amazon & CrossFTP Pro on Mac – video tutorial(s):
- Connect to your S3 account 04:06
- Create a bucket on S3 & Upload a file to S3 04:59
- Manage folders and files on S3 06:25
- Using expiring URLs in practice 01:59
CrossFTP Pro can do a lot more then what is shown in these video chapters, of course. We will cover advanced topics and the use of CloudFront and video/audio streaming with CrossFTP soon. In the meantime I hope this tutorial is useful to you. If you plan to buy CrossFTP Pro, please consider buying it via us(yes, we are an affiliate) so that we gain a couple of dollars to pay for this article. Don’t feel obliged, but it doesn’t costs you anything extra, therefore it’s a win-win because you will have my undying gratitude

I’ve never heard of CrossFTP, thanks for that info! I thought already that I was mad thinking Transmit was crappy while everyone says how wonderful it is. Will try this one out for sure.

Hi @videoconference,
Transmit is not that bad, but it is not made for S3 AWS. They just added it to comply with the hype, so to speak, and that is all they did. Hence, the S3 part is very basic.
You will see, CrossFTP is not like that at all.
