It is so far! We just launched our very own commercial plugin for Joomla “S3Media Pro” which, apart from regular media, also supports video and audio from your S3 Amazon account, including expiring URLs to protect you media against leeching and unauthorized sharing as we discussed in S3 Amazon: Protect files against unauthorized use.
The official term is “extension” since it involves a Joomla module and component, but most people refer to things like that as a Joomla plugin.
What makes this “plugin” so great is that you can monetize your video and audio in unexpected ways and this is clearly explained with tips and tricks in our brand new website for Joomla, namely: www.joomla21century.com
So, we are not going to repeat ourselves here, but we like you to have a look there and let us know what you think.
However, to lift a tip of the veil before you go:
Closed Captions and Subtitles on the fly
A lot of thought has been put into accessibility features, not only to do good for the hearing disabled, but actually to give you the tools to tab into a vast audience that is generally ignored. There are no reliable figures about the hearing impaired worldwide, but in the US alone, you have about 20 million people with some form of hearing problem. Every 11th child born has a hearing problem. So, hearing problems are a fact of life and including those people into your video or audio gives you a huge advantage over your competition.
Creating subtitles or Closed Captions is easy and it is explained in How to use TimedText for subtitling on the joomla21century site It basically involves creating a text file in a special format (xml). The difference between Closed Caption and subtitles are explained in the article as well. Subtitles are excellent to translate videos into foreign languages and the good news is, you can use the same xml file on YouTube too.
So, here it is again: our multilingual, versatile extension for Joomla ![]()
The plugin was originally developed for the Province of Antwerp on www.triplepmagazine.be and we enhanced the plugin in the meantime with S3 Amazon support, S3Media Pro™ and S3Media Stream™ are trademarks of Raboo Design.
