VidLogo review: application to burn mark logos on videos

Rating 4/5One of our readers suggested VidLogo as a simple solution to add a logo or watermark on videos, so I ran a test on this application, created by GeoVid, to see how useful it could be. And the verdict is, that if you are a Windows user, this is a easy to use application for you to convert your regular videos into branded videos.

The installation was a bit strange, as I got an error message saying that GVSourceFilter.dll could not be registered.  I had the option to Retry, Ignore and Abort.  Since I was working with an old test computer, I pressed Ignore, and that didn’t seem to have a negative effect on the application.
By the way, it is always a good idea to test unknown software on an old computer, because you never know, it might mess up your configuration seriously.

Working with the application is indeed very easy:  You select the video you want to add a logo to, you select the export format, either AVI, WMV, ASF, AVI, MPG, MPEG.  Then you select your logo image, which you can scale and you can set the opacity.  The compression options are adequate, you can set keyframe, bitrate and the audio can be set as well.  Then you press Start and off it goes.

Conversion is surprisingly fast, even on an old computer with 1GB ram and the result is not bad at all.

Disadvantages:

The only thing I found really disturbing while tinkering with the settings was that my hard drive was working like mad all the time, while there were no other apps running in the background.  The boys from GeoVid might want to look into that.
An export option to FLV would have been nice, but for only $39.95 you can’t have everything.

Conclusion:

This watermarking application gets a 4 stars from me.  It would have gotten a 5 star, were it not for the false start with the installation and the hard drive issue.  Other then that, if you are a Windows user and you have loads of videos to burn mark, this is a very useful app that anyone without prior knowledge of video can handle because the default settings of the compression are good enough to give acceptable results.  In other words, with this app, you can safe yourself a lot of time.  You might get into the routine of downloading your videos from your camcorder and then run them straight through VidLogo to watermark the videos.
The price is only $39.95,  and I think it is certainly worth it if you do not have other video editing software already.
Apart from that, you can test the software for 30 days without payment.

And thanks again Gunsta, for the tip!  Much appreciated!

I will have to get this program a try. I have wanted to add a logo to all my videos. This seems like a great solution!
