Importing bookmarks from Firefox to Opera

Migrate from Firefox to OperaIf you notice weird things happening to your blog or content management system and you are using Firefox, chances are that Firefox is messing up. Especially versions starting from 3.x are so bad that I decided to migrated to Opera. I’m not happy leaving Firefox because it has always been a great browser, but it is getting too much with all the errors these days. Let me show you a couple typical problems:

  • While I write revisions of posts, Firefox simply reverts back to old versions and refuses to safe the edits.  Only after I close and restart Firefox, it will work normally again.
  • Firefox suddenly doesn’t display icons in the admin section.  Restart Firefox or the computer generally does the trick.
  • When you want to reopen firefox, it sometimes says that there is already an instance open, so it refuses to open another one. You can only get around this by pressing CTRL+ALT+DELETE and then in the tab Applications remove all processes with the name Firefox in them.

If things like that happen once in a while, it isn’t so bad, but this has become a daily problem.  There is actually a long lists of complaints I have about Firefox, but I’m not going to bore you with that. Instead, I’m going to explain to you how to migrate your Firefox bookmarks to Opera, so that you can migrate more or less painlessly.

In the member Area, you will find a video tutorial called Migrating bookmarks from Firefox to Opera under the section Blog Stuff, how to do this.  It’s very easy to do and once you are used to Opera, you never look back, although it will take you a couple of days to get used to it and appreciate the way it works.  Opera has many interesting features and in some respects it is more advanced then Firefox.  It loads a lot faster, it seldom creates problems and Sessions are part of the standard version.  You will find the Speed Dial also very useful.

That said: don’t remove Firefox because you will want to keep checking your site with it when you make changes to the looks.  Also, some on line applications do not know how to interact with Opera, like www.dimdim.com, which is used to start webinars, for instance.  In situations like that, you will be happy to have Firefox at hand. It also needs to be said, firefox has a couple of indispensable extensions that you will not find in Opera. So, primarily, I use Opera for surfing and updating my sites, but for technical stuff, like creating sites and blogs, I keep using Firefox. I’m sure Firefox will improve at some point, so I would keep an eye on it, but at this point in time, it is a hopelessly cluttered browser, actually worse then IExplorer.

  1. Thank God for these videos.

I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to migrate all of my bookmarks and thanks to these instructions from Miracle Tutorials, I was able to get it all done in less than 5 minutes.

That’s exactly why I love coming back to this site.
